The concentration of heavy metals and pollution indices in a selected abandoned mine in the State of Pahang, Malaysia

Abandoned iron ore mining soil was analyzed for its metal contamination. Pollution indices were calculated and used to examine the potential of area be polluted by metals. The samples collected in triplicate from ten sampling points spread throughout area. energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analytical method determine concentrations Cd, Cu, Co, Pb, Zn, Fe, Cr, Ni, Mn. order mean (mg/kg) taken at random locations near chosen mines is Mn, Cd. Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo) results showed that moderately contaminated, especially with whereas Enrichment Factor (EF) Quantification Contamination (QoC) enrichment strongly related anthropogenic origins. EF revealed ecological risk based on individual metals followed following order: Cd > Pb Co Cu Cr Fe Ni Mn average Potential Ecological Risk (PERI) recorded severely high-risk level. findings clearly study might pose a serious threat environmental health.
